Dear Parents,

Fort Mill Parks and Recreation is excited to start our fall sports programs and we thank you for choosing the Town of Fort Mill as your athletic provider.  As excited as we are, we were just notified yesterday – Thursday, September 8 – that our uniforms for the sports of soccer, T – Ball, baseball, and softball, have been delayed due to staffing issues at their production company. The scheduled delivery dates for the uniforms in the sports listed above will now be the middle of next week (estimated around Sept.14) and when they arrive our staff will work diligently to get these out to the coaches.

We apologize for the delay and have expressed to the vendor our disappointment in our uniforms not being ready. We have used this vendor in the past and they have always provided a quality product and excellent customer service. Our staff is working to readjust the schedule for the games that were originally scheduled for the week of September 10 – 15. Those games will be updated to the Quick Scores schedule for their respective sports by Monday, September 12. Parks & Recreation Staff will work with our volunteer coaches to add additional practices next week in order to be ready to start the regular season on September 17.

Birthday Cutoff

The birthday cutoff for the Fall 2022 season is December 31st, 2022. The age of the child on that day will determine the group they should be signed up for.

Instructional Soccer (U5)

U5

U5 Instructional soccer is offered every spring and fall to children who are league ages 3 and 4 (as of December 31st, 2022). This program is a great way to introduce your child to the game of soccer. Participants will learn the basic fundamentals of soccer (dribbling, kicking, and passing).

Practices and games will be held on Saturday Mornings (9:00 a.m.; 10:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m.) at the Doby Bridge Elementary Soccer field (behind the school). The first couple of weeks the teams will have practice where they will do drills to learn some of the basics. Instruction will be given be Independence Soccer Club coaches along volunteer coaches.  

Games will begin after the first few Saturdays, where score is not kept. The coaches will act as the referees for these games. The Town of Fort Mill will provide shirts and socks; as well as medals at the conclusion of the season. Parents will be responsible for providing cleats, shin guards, shorts, and mouthpieces (optional).

U7 Instructional soccer is offered every spring and fall to children who are league ages 5 and 6 (as of December 31st, 2022). This program is a great way to introduce your child to the game of soccer. Participants will learn the basic fundamentals of soccer (dribbling, kicking, and passing).

Practices will be held on either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 6:15 pm through the season. The first couple of weeks on Saturdays teams will practice with instruction given by Independence Soccer Club coaches along volunteer coaches. After the first few weeks games will be held on Saturday mornings from 9:00 to 11:00 am. All practices and games will be held at Springfield Elementary Soccer field - the field that is parallel to the Springfield Parkway. Scores and records will not be kept for this league. The Town of Fort Mill will provide shirts and socks, as well as participation medals at the end of the season. Parents will be responsible for providing cleats, shin guards, shorts, and mouthpieces (optional).

Competitive Soccer (U9 through U14)

U9 - U14

In our U9 through U14 age groups, single-gender teams are formed (U9 is 7 to 8 years old; U11 is 9 to 10 years old; U14 is 11 to 13 years old). Age determined by how old the child is on December 31st, 2022. Teams typically practice two nights per week for an hour each session with games being held on Friday (evenings), Saturday (between 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.) and an occasional Sunday (between 1:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.). Practice days, times, and locations are determined by the coach that the child gets drafted by. 

The games continue to grow in competition as the children get older. The Town of Fort Mill will provide shirts, shorts and socks. Parents will be responsible for providing cleats, shin guards, and mouthpieces (optional).
