Hiring Process

The hiring process generally takes two months once we receive an application. We do not have specific testing dates but make them available on an as-needed basis. Here are the steps in the hiring process:

Initial Application

Preliminary Background Investigation

Physical Agility Test and Written Test

Polygraph Examination

Background Investigation

Oral Review Board

Final Review by Chief of Police

Conditional Job Offer

Psychological Evaluation Medical Examination and Drug Screen

Salary

Salary for non-sworn officers is $44,000, but will otherwise be evaluated based on the candidate’s educational background and years of enforcement experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Be at least 21 years of age
US citizenship
High school diploma or GED certificate
Possess a valid SC driver’s license
Good driving record
No criminal history
Satisfactory credit history
Honorable military discharge (if applicable)
