[ARCHIVED] Town and Fort Mill School District Partner to Support Safer School Traffic

Copy of Fort Mill Statement About School Traffic Safety-8-22-25

The Town of Fort Mill and the Fort Mill School District have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance traffic safety at local schools. Through this partnership, sworn officers from the Fort Mill Police Department will help manage traffic during student arrival and dismissal times at several schools across the district. The Fort Mill School District will fund the costs associated with law enforcement support under this agreement.

Officers will be present at designated schools to help ensure smoother traffic flow for buses, parents, and students. Support will be provided at:

  • Catawba Ridge High School: 8:00–8:50 AM, 3:00–4:00 PM
  • River Trail Elementary School: 6:55–7:40 AM, 1:45–2:30 PM
  • Fort Mill Elementary School: 6:55–7:40 AM, 1:45–2:30 PM
  • Fort Mill Middle School: 7:40–8:25 AM, 3:00–3:30 PM

Town leadership, FMPD, and local elected representatives will continue to work closely with school district officials to address traffic concerns and identify opportunities for improvement.

“Safety is at the heart of what we do in Fort Mill, and we are thankful to the Fort Mill Police Department for playing such a critical role in that mission. By supporting these schools during arrival and dismissal times, they are helping create a safer environment for our children and for everyone traveling through our town,” said Mayor Guynn Savage.

The agreement will remain in effect through December 2025, supporting the shared goal of safer and more efficient school traffic operations for the community.
