Due to weather projections for strong storms with gusty winds and cloud to ground lightning on Friday, May 6, the Town of Fort Mill is delaying the start of the 13th Annual South Carolina Strawberry Festival from Friday evening to Saturday morning, May 7.
"While no one truly knows what the weather may be, we have been following the national and local weather forecasts for this storm front expected on Friday," said Fort Mill Town Manager David Broom. "Our first consideration is to protect the participants and visitors. Weather projections have been steadily indicating gusty winds that could be an issue for some vendors with their merchandise and tents, and of course cloud to ground lightning is dangerous for all."
Weather for Saturday may include a few showers, but there are no dangerous weather predictions at this time.
The Strawberry Festival has had many years of great weather, though dangerous weather did become an issue in 2019 when severe lightning and heavy rain forced the festival to end early on Saturday evening.
The schedule for Saturday, May 7 will remain the same and details can be found on the SC Strawberry Festival website (www.scstrawberryfestival.com/). Please keep an eye on our Festival social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) for updates as they develop.
