Fire Hydrant Flushing Schedule in Fort Mill

fire hydrant spraying

Please note, the Town of Fort Mill is conducting fire hydrant flow testing this month at several locations throughout Town. Customers may see plumes of water from flowing hydrants for short periods of time. Customers in those areas may also notice low water pressure and/or a brownish tint to their water. When a hydrant is opened up, the high flow of water in the nearby water pipes causes water pressure to drop in the area and tends to stir up naturally occurring deposits on the pipe walls. This can cause discolored water at customers’ taps. The water in the system is chlorinated and meets regulatory standards. Customers can run water from their COLD taps or outdoor spigots until the color dissipates. For any questions or concerns, please call the Utilities Department at (803) 547-7158.
