The Town of Fort Mill has the following updates regarding storm debris collection, leaf collection and storm drain maintenance.
Storm debris collection: Due to effects from Hurricane Helene across the Fort Mill area, residents may have several pieces of debris they need to dispose of. In an effort to assist Public Works crews during their trash collection, and to help keep Fort Mill clean, please adhere to the following guidelines when placing debris curbside:
-Limbs need to be cut no longer than 6 feet in length and 3 feet in diameter and stacked parallel to the curb. Please place small, loose debris and longer limbs all in one pile for ease of collection.
-Large brush piles will be collected as soon as Town crews are able, though it may take longer than your regularly scheduled collection day due to the amount of debris that fell during the storm. Please make sure to place limb debris away from overhead utility lines and at least 4 feet away from any other objects. Also, please place bulk items in a separate pile from your brush pile.
Leaf collection: Fort Mill’s Public Works department will officially begin collecting leaves with its fully automated vacuum truck on Oct. 14. Remember, leaves can be collected in a pile and left curbside, but must not be placed on roads or near storm drains. Leaves can clog storm drains causing flooding or other serious stormwater issues. Place sticks and branches in a separate pile to avoid clogging the collection truck’s vacuum tube. These items will be collected separately. Another option for leaf collection is to bag leaves and place curbside on regular trash pick-up days. For specific questions, contact Public Works at (803) 547-7158. Residents may notice the leaf truck operating around Town prior to this date, though crews are solely using it to assist with storm cleanup at the moment.
Stormwater Maintenance: We ask residents to please check nearby storm drains for any debris and to clear them if possible. This will help prevent flooding issues during times of intense rain.
