Town of Fort Mill Community,
The Fort Mill School District (FMSD) has shared important changes regarding school traffic flow and transportation. These adjustments are necessary due to their third-party provider no longer being able to supply traffic guards to direct vehicle flow entering and exiting school grounds.
Pedestrian crossing guards will still be stationed at all painted crosswalks to ensure those who walk to school can cross roads safely. The district continues to collaborate with local law enforcement, local municipalities, and the SCDOT to develop long-term solutions in conjunction with the changes below.
Right-Turn Only Schools
To improve safety and efficiency at their busiest locations, the district is implementing a time-based right-turn restriction for vehicles exiting school property at the car rider and student exits during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up for the following schools, effective immediately:
• Catawba Ridge High School
• Fort Mill Elementary School
• Fort Mill Middle School
• River Trail Elementary School
• Riverview Elementary School
FMSD worked with the Fort Mill Police Department to develop suggested traffic patterns for these schools.
How You Can Help
1. Be Patient: The first few weeks of school always require an adjustment period. Please allow for extra travel time and be patient as everyone gets accustomed to the new routines.
2. Drive Safely: The Fort Mill Police Department will have a greater presence in school zones and intensify their efforts to ensure the safety of all.
The safety of the Fort Mill community continues to be our highest priority. We wish all FMSD students and staff a safe, successful, and enjoyable school year.
