Oct. 1, 2020— Mark your calendars as the Fort Mill Fire Department and Town of Fort Mill host their first all-virtual Fire Prevention Week of activities from Oct. 4-10, though the annual Fire Department Open House event will not be held this year due to current COVID-19 restrictions.
This year’s theme, “Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen!,” focuses on the importance of cooking safely. According to the National Fire Protection Association, cooking is the leading cause of U.S. home fires and home fire injuries. This year’s week of events, which kicks off Oct. 4, will focus on this topic with a variety of statistics, interactive features and contests. Here are some highlights from this year’s event:
- Safety brochures: The Town and Fire Department have teamed up with Toppers Pizza of Fort Mill to spread the Fire Prevention Week Theme. With your orders this week, you will receive a brochure on how to keep safe.
- Coloring Contests: Download a coloring sheet from our Town website and enter one of two categories (Kids and Teen/Adults) for the chance to win a prize!
- Sparky Story Time: Check out our virtual video as our Fort Mill firefighters read The Story of Sparky the Fire Dog, who will be in attendance!
- Home Fire Escape Plan Contest: Learn how to prepare for a home fire by creating a customized escape plan. Enter your plan into our contest for the chance to win a prize.
