Benefits Overview
The Town of Fort Mill offers an attractive benefit package to full-time employees that includes the following:
Employer Paid Benefits: The Town pays 100% of the employee-only coverage for medical, dental, vision, short- and long-term disability plans. Additionally, the Town pays towards the premium for medical, dental and vision coverage when spouses and dependents are added for an average contribution of $10,620.20 per employee per year.
**Employees are eligible for all benefits the first day of the month after their start date.
- Blue Choice Medical Insurance (BCBS): Choose either co-pay or high-deductible plans (with HSA).
- Other Plans: Dental, Vision, Short- & Long-Term Disability, Accident, Critical Illness, and Hospital Indemnity policies through Pacific Life. Legal and ID Shield memberships are also available.
- Flexible Spending Accounts: The Town of Fort Mill offers flexible spending accounts (FSA) which allow employees to pay for out-of-pocket health and dependent daycare expenses with pre-taxed dollars. This means that before federal, state, and Social Security taxes are calculated and deducted from pay, the FSA funds are taken to reduce the employees’ gross pay, thereby lowering the taxable income.
- Health Savings Accounts: A limited purpose flexible spending account (HSA) is available for high-deductible plans only.
- Life Insurance Policy: Basic Life Insurance of $25,000 is provided to all full-time employees. Additional voluntary life insurance is available for employees and their dependents.
- PEBA Retirement System (SCRS & PORS): The town contributes to the South Carolina Retirement System and Police Officer Retirement System. Retirement Benefits can be seen at https://www.peba.sc.gov/
- Empower Deferred Compensation Plans: Optional retirement plans include 401k, 401k Roth, 457b and 457b Roth. The Town currently contributes $10 per pay period toward 401k pre-taxed accounts.
- Vacation and Sick Time: Employees accrue 6.67 hours per month vacation time with increases after 5 years of service and 8 hours per month sick time.
- Wellness Rewards: Employees can earn up to 8 hours per fiscal year for wellness attended events.
- Federal Holidays: The Town observes 9 Federal Holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Day After Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
- Floating Holidays: Every employee receives 3 floating holidays during our fiscal year (Oct 1 – Sept 30). Floating Holidays can be used for any day the employee chooses (with supervisor’s approval).
- Employee Assistance Program: Offers free and confidential personal, parental, financial, legal counseling, education and referral services to employees and their eligible dependents.
Health and Wellness:
- Biometric Screening and Health Fair: Each year the Town provides a health fair to educate employees on their benefits and other health related topics. Biometric screenings are provided to each employee with a bloodwork data that can be shared with their primary care physician at no cost to the employee.
- Annual Physicals are provided to all Firefighter personnel.
