Google Fiber has begun installation work in the Fort Mill area and will continue working in our community throughout 2026. During this project, GFiber is working with the Town of Fort Mill, local HOAs and property managers. Read below for important information explaining the project.
What is GFiber?
Google Fiber (GFiber) is an internet service provider with the mission of helping all communities access high-speed, high bandwidth internet.
When will they start and how long will it take to complete installation?
GFiber is starting construction now and expects to build much of the town through 2026. They aim to minimize disruptions and notify residents and businesses in advance when construction is planned on their block.
Will the construction be disruptive to the community?
GFiber will construct its network within the Town right of way, in accordance with all applicable permitting requirements and their right-of-way agreement with the Town. Fort Mill residents can expect to see construction crews in the roadways and adjacent softscapes/yards that are part of the town’s right of way authority.
Residents and businesses will receive advance notice by way of door hangers, cones and other safety and informational efforts before construction begins on their block. GFiber works to limit traffic impacts and disruption to residents. Anyone with questions or concerns can contact the GFiber Construction hotline at 1-877-454-6959, Option #3.
Residents can typically expect a 10 business day completion time for ticketed construction issues.
Construction Communication Commitments from GFiber
● GFiber will provide a high-level construction map with dates to the HOA boards who request them for distribution to all residents.
● GFiber Project Managers will provide regular updates to the HOA boards who request them.
● GFiber Construction Managers oversee the work and are regularly onsite during active construction.
● GFiber will have clearly marked vehicles at all times.
● GFiber will deploy door hangers one (1) week prior to construction start.
● GFiber network expects to be 100 percent underground and will use flush-mounted vaults. GFiber does not have above-ground structures in Fort Mill.
● After construction, GFiber will restore any impacted areas to their previous condition, using sod, seed or other materials as appropriate.
